Africa Human Rights Film Festival

Sisters of the Wilderness was officially selected to the inaugural Africa Human Rights Film Fest which takes place on 18 - 19 October 2019 in the Kalahari.

The festival which theme is: 'fostering human rights and diversity ', will be hosted in Andriesvale, a rural and marginalized South African community of the indigenous KhomaniSan people who live in the Kalahari Desert on the border with neighboring Botswana and Namibia.

It will be an experience of a lifetime with dim screenings under the starry desert nights, unique accommodation in the tranquil bushes, game drives and much more.

Amnesty

Sisters of the Wilderness was chosen by Amnesty International Durban Chapter for a special South African Women’s Month screening.

The film was selected because it highlights the threats to nature and the rural communities around the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi park from unsustainable coal mining and illegal hunting of the rhino.

Amnesty International youth groups from high schools and students from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban were invited.

Five hundred young people are expected to attend and special guests.

After the screening there will be a Q&A session with the young women who feature in the film.

Collaboration with Crowd Versus

We are delighted to collaborate with the Crowd Versus to raise awareness to the severe threat to the iMfolozi wilderness, in the oldest game park in Africa, and the rural communities around the park, from unsustainable open cast coal mining.

Screening: Mill Hill School Foundation

In June 2019 we were honoured to have a special screening of Sisters of the Wilderness to pupils and parents at the Mill Hill School Foundation in London.

The feedback was fantastic.

…the implicit messages of the injustice of poverty and disparity of wealth are effectively set in parallel with that of the destruction of the natural environment through the motivation of greed… Many messages for our pupils; reminding them of their privileges, of pressing eco-matters and of the resilience, camaraderie and appetite for life which characterises youth…
